Yes. I was hungry, and there is food in the cold box, but it required cooking. I cannot operate the stove, it will not become hot. So I needed a fire to cook with.
[Duh.]
this is gonna be forever his "connor what did you do NOW" face
[ Desmond immediately turns off the water. That makes him a little paranoid. Of course he should have made sure at least someone had taught Connor how to use anything. Also: "cold box". This is not the 1800's, pal. ]
Okay, I'm going to take the whole place not going up in flames as a good sign, but I think I'm going to have to teach you a thing or two about how to even life.
[ Oh, god, this just got simultaneously worse and better. There's a small moment in which Desmond has to sit and think on how to put this. C'mon, man, you took a crash course on how to get throw 15th centuring Italy, this should be a piece of cake.
...yeah no. ]
It means you can come and stay with me for a while.
[ Considering there is a contained fire on the stove.
[Connor silently considers this for a while. He treats the phone much as he would conversation, which means long silences while he contemplates answers.]
Is there space for me to sleep? I have my bedroll, but I do prefer a bed to it.
[ Honestly, Desmond doesn't blame him. Some people are careful about what they say, so the long silence doesn't bother him. He patiently waits through it. ]
I've got a fold out couch? [ Er-- ] The couch folds out into a bed.
[ That may or may not actually be big enough. ]
It's probably not the most comfortable thing in the world, but I don't really have a spare room or anything...
[Not fitting on things is hardly a problem exclusive to Eudio for him. Since his last growth spurt, Connor hasn't fitted anything very comfortably unless it's been made for him.]
[ Geez, Desmond's almost afraid of how much Connor actually eats just to keep up with day to day life, if he hasn't been able to fit on anything for that long.
Honestly, though, he finds himself a little amused more than worried. Having Connor around would give him something to do. Something constructive. ]
No, but do not worry about it. I will be there shortly.
[The phone disconnects, because he's worked out that much.
And he takes a bit longer than he hoped he would, because he ends up appearing at Desmond's window half an hour later, rapping his knuckles softly on the glass.]
[ Well, as long as Connor thinks he can make it... Desmond supposes if Connor needed anything else he'd call. It gives Desmond some time to think about how to handle everything. If it were someone else-- someone he couldn't call Brother, Desmond wouldn't be so quick to offer his couch. But Connor? Oddly enough, he likes him. Likes his sincerity.
It's nice to have some relative honesty.
And it gives Desmond to maybe get some real clothes on. He'd come back from a long run and had a shower, so there he was, not expecting any company, sitting around in his boxers. Classy, right? So may as well as move furniture around and pull the couch apart to get to the pull-out mattress (it sort of looked big enough, at least) before heading off to the bedroom to get some clothes on.
The window Connor was at? Bedroom window.
Desmond? Well, he has pants on, just not done up yet and was starting to get a shirt on before the noise makes Desmond almost jump clean out of his skin. Which didn't help-- no one likes getting tangled up in their clothes and falling clean over and out of sight of the window, since, well, that's the side of the bed Desmond happened to be on and the whole this is obscuring him.
Yeah. Your descendant is a smooth operator, Connor. ]
[Connor found the place with a mix of memory, skill and a lot of luck when it came to windows. He had seen Desmond passing his window and just beelined there, before he lost track of which apartment it was.
He cants his head as Desmond goes straight over in a heap behind the bed. The window seems to be locked (which is sensible), so he has to just cling on, feet on the brickworks and fingers tight on the window frame to hold his position.]

Ah. You left me a message. The phone said so.
[That is definitely a fire that can be heard.]
no subject
Regardless, Desmond half chuckles. Yes, the phone did, indeed, tell him so. Granted, the sound of crackling does make him wonder. ]
Did I catch you at a bad time? You out camping?
[ What? That's a perfectly reasonable assumption, okay. ]
no subject
[That's not ominous, right?]
There is something called a 'zoo' here, and I did not want to camp somewhere that the animals must not be harmed.

...wait, go back a tick.

Okay, I'm going to take the whole place not going up in flames as a good sign, but I think I'm going to have to teach you a thing or two about how to even life.
How in the world did you even manage that?
no subject
[In fact, he's quite indignant that Desmond might think otherwise.]
I know how to live on my own, in a forest, at Homestead, I just cannot make these damn devices work!
[He's not sleeping or eating well and it's getting to him.]
no subject
All aright, all right, okay-- [ It's okay, dude, honest. ] Maybe I should... show you how a lot of this works?
no subject
... would you? I tried to follow the instructions on the phone but they are not helping.
no subject
Yeah. Yeah, no problem. That... might take a little bit. There's a lot of ground to cover. For now, if you want, you can crash on my couch.
[ If Connor would even fit, honestly. Desmond assumes that this is gonna take a while. ]
no subject
[What is a couch? What does crash mean in this context? Help, Desmond, you do not make sense.]
no subject
...yeah no. ]

That it's part of the stove.
What has life become? ]

We can try, at least. Want me to pick you up?

I can walk. I have a map and your address, I will find it. Just tell me a nearby landmark and I will find your place.

Edge of the club strip. [ Er, wait-- ] If that makes sense.
